livett - Option 1

Features of the airline industry that have affected KiwiAir’s competitive position:

Deregulation of the skies which allowed cut-price airlines to enter and compete in the industry.

KiwiAir's new strategic direction to compete with these cut-price airlines is their new customer-centric information systems. One feature is the ticketless and paperless e-travel. This system improves KiwiAir's competitve position by delivering the best customer experience.

Rising fuel prices.

KiwiAir's strategy involved the effective information management of flight scheduling. One way KiwiAir were monitoring the use of fuel effectively is having the ability to cancel flights that were partly full and arrange these customers into other profitable flights without majorly disrupting travel plans of customers.
